Learn about LibGuides: Statistics Snapshot

This guide demonstrates how librarians at SWOSU are using LibGuides. Featured are examples of LibGuides interactive capabilities, library 2.0 resources, and instruction use.

Guide vs LibGuide

One of the most frequently asked questions is about statistics. Are students using the LibGuides, and are they using LibGuides more than the previous traditional web site pathfinders?

At this point, we do not know the answer to that question.  LibGuides have been in use at Southwestern since late summer 2009. We have only used LibGuides during instruction in a few instances during the current academic year. Beginning the Fall 2009 a link to LibGuides was added to the library homepage. We are looking forward to being able to answer that question.

About LibGuide Usage Statistics

Stats Perks:

It is possible to view statistics for overall use of all guides alphabetically by month and year.

LibGuides statistics break down guide elements into catagories; it is possible to see hits on pages within a guide (tabs) as well as each individual box (links, books, widgets).

Results Overview

Currently we have one full semester and a second partical semester of LibGuides stats. Some of the  more popular guides include:

  • Chemistry/Mathematics
  • Native American History & Studies
  • Nursing/Allied Health
  • Business & Economics
  • English Composition
  • Entertainment and Popular Culture

Lesser used web-based subject guides seem to be garnering more use within the LibGuides format.

About LibGuide Usage Statistics

Stats Concern:

LibGuides statistics do not differentiate between user and author. As guides are being built page hits are counted, subsequently it is not uncommon to have a significant number of hits before a page is published and used by patrons.
