Learn about LibGuides: 3. Course Management System

This guide demonstrates how librarians at SWOSU are using LibGuides. Featured are examples of LibGuides interactive capabilities, library 2.0 resources, and instruction use.

Using LibGuides in Canvas

Southwestern Oklahoma State uses the Canvas management program to deliver web-enhanced and web-based online course options to provide distance learning opportunities for students. LibGuides fits into Canvas allowing links to specific tabs/pages as well as entire guides created to enhance the course with library resources.

Options for Creative Links

LibGuides allows users to embed movies or slideshows that they have created.  It's easy!

A slideshow can be created with screen shots of the content that are saved as slides in PowerPoint. Each slide can be saved as a JPEG and uploaded into a free web album such as Picasa.

After adding captions and selecting a size, the slideshow can be entered into the LibGuide using the Embed Video box type.

Video & Slideshow Note

Any videos and slideshows added to LibGuides must first be loaded to a hosted service such as YouTube, Teacher Tube, Picasa Web Albums, Flickr, or Dance in Video. There are examples of each of these services throughout this guide.

LibGuides is a hosted service (with their own server). Without this service, the size of videos and slideshows would be cost prohibitive.
