Finding Educational Tests: Tests in Print

Find information about educational testing through resources that are available at the Al Harris Library.

Tests in Print Location

Tests in Print (TIP) serves as a comprehensive bibliography to all known commercially available tests that are currently in print in the English language. TIP provides vital information to users including test purpose, test publisher, in-print status, price, test acronym, intended test population, administration times, publication date(s), and test author(s). A score index permits users to identify what is being measured by each test.

Tests in Print also guides readers to critical, candid test reviews published in the Mental Measurements Yearbook (MMY) series. Tests in Print is an indispensable reference for professionals (including such areas as education, psychology, business) as well as anyone interested in the critical issues of tests and testing.

Tests in Print serves as a master index to all volumes of the Mental Measurements Yearbook, including those volumes (i.e. prior to volume 9) which are not included in the Mental Measurements Yearbook database. Tests in Print contains concise descriptive listings of and references to commercially published tests, but unlike MMY, this work does not contain reviews of the tests.

All volumes of TIP are available in the Reference area on the first floor of the library.  The call number is  016.37126 T289.

Differences between MMY and TIP:

  • MMY consists of descriptive entries, references and critical reviews of commercially published tests, written in English. Each MMY includes reviews of tests that are new or substantially revised since the previous edition.  The MMY is hierarchical in that the more recent index listings are for revised versions of tests.  If you are searching the print version of MMY, start with the latest edition and work backwards.
  • TIP serves as a master index to all Buros publications. It attempts to provide a comprehensive listing and detailed description of every test that is currently (i.e. at the time of compilation of the set) available for purchase, and of many out-of-print tests.
  • Not all tests and measurements are reviewed in MMY, and because of that, TIP is necessary to identify and locate tests that are available and in print but are not widely popular or used enough to be featured in MMY.
