Designing an Infographic: Steps of Designing an Infographic

Steps of Designing an Infographic

After you are familiar with the examples of the different types of infographics, it is time to think about designing your own infographic.  If you want a clever and astute infographic design, you need to presume how your audience will read your infographic.

Things to Consider When Designing an Infographic

  • What main point do you want readers to take away from viewing your infographic?
  • What data do you want the reader to definitely not miss?
  • In what progression would you like the viewer to read the data on the infographic?

Step One is Outlining the Goals of Your Infographic. This will help you collect your thoughts and make sure your data will function in an infographic. Step Two is Collecting Data for Your Infographic. This is where you gather all your research and select the data you wish to share. Step Three is Visualizing the Data in Your Infographic. Here you select which tool you are going to use to design your infographic and start thinking about templates or if you are going to use them. Step Four is Laying Out the Elements of Your Infographic. Here you firm up your decision about templates thinking about the goals of your infographic and your audience. Step Five is Adding Style to Your Infographic. This is when you customize the template to your needs making sure the colors, fonts, size, and style all fit with your theme and data. To design a successful infographic, you must remember that the human brain searches out patterns in visual data to help us understand. As designers, we can take advantage of this and lay out our data to graphically create patterns to enforce the point we are trying to get across to the readers. (Nediger)
